Welcome to our site!
This site is intended to provide parents with guidelines for helping themselves, and their children adapt to the current situation created by the coronavirus pandemic. We have consulted several resources to gain an understanding of what parents are dealing with at this time, and have focused our research on how to best address these issues. This is just a brief introduction outlining the many topics that will be addressed on our site to help you and your children cope with the COVID-19 pandemic!
One pressing issue that is affecting many parents is how to deal with homeschooling their children. With many school districts implementing distance learning, this puts an added stress on parents, and gives them a new role in their child’s education. We decided to center much of our material around this issue, as we saw its prevalence and significance on both social media and news media outlets. Expanding upon the issue of homeschooling, we will also be addressing how parents can stay involved in their child’s work, and make connections with their teachers. Many children are having a hard time keeping motivated at home, and forming connections between home and school through your child’s educators can be beneficial for both parents and children in the current environment.
Another topic that will be addressed in our posts is concerned with children's emotional and social development. This time is stressful for everyone, children included. Parents may be struggling with how to deal with the rollercoaster of emotions that may come with their child being sheltered in place with them. They also may be wondering how to keep their child socially connected, while also keeping them safe and healthy. It is more difficult for us all to find ways to not be socially isolated, while social distancing, and children’s social lives are no exception to this. We seek to offer guidelines based upon various psychological theories, as well as current literature on fostering healthy emotional regulation and development in children.
Our platform is organized by both our themes that we have identified through our literature review, and also by theories we have used to apply and use to help make sense of the current environment for families. For further details on how to apply these guidelines effectively, see our FAQ page. We thank you for taking the time to visit our site, and hope you find it to be helpful during this time of uncertainty!
